Operation Buster-Jangle was a series of nuclear tests involving live troop exercises that lasted from October to November 1951. The troops were suppose to “attack” a 1,640 feet from ground zero. Some 6,500 troops participated and were given little to no protection as they were told most of the radiation from an air burst would dissipate by half before it would hit them, which could not be further from the truth.
